Two words that sum up what the Lord has been teaching me: glad surrender.
What I have come to know of it: believing that whatever dreams or ideas we hold for ourselves are more than worth laying down for the divine exchange our Heavenly Father offers us–everlasting oneness with the Almighty God. We give Him dirty rags (at best), and He gives us His holy, perfect, immeasurably awe-inspiring self.
Glad surrender is what I am learning…reluctant surrender is what I have been giving.
I have often made the mistake of striving to make sense of what the Lord has done or has asked of me with my finite human mind. In the Spirit’s faithful dealing with my stubborn heart, He quiets me by gently reminding me that I am not entitled to understand, but what I am is commanded to joyfully accept and trust that He Himself knows. That is all I should need.
What a wonderful privilege we have—being taught by the Great God Almighty. As Christians, we are granted the honor of sitting in the front row seat of the wisest Teacher’s classroom—the One who is All-Knowing, the Creator of all things, the One who has existed from eternity past to eternity future. We get to learn, talk to, and spend time with the Holiest, Grandest Being, and His desire is to teach us! And how patiently His dealings are with you and I… willing to go over a lesson time and time again, until our feeble minds and hearts are trained in understanding more of His ways and heart.
May we be examples of Christ in this way to those He places in our lives…patient in teaching, gentle in correcting, and sacrificial in love.

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them-not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” 1 Peter 5:2-3
