Living in a foreign country, it is easy to feel disconnected. However, God is good and provides those people who we need in our lives. He brings them into our lives as a blessing and demonstration of His love for us. For me, that is what community in Christ looks like.
At the beginning of August, I started my 4th year in Mexico. I can’t even begin to describe how Puerto Escondido has become my home within the last several months. You may be thinking that sounds odd since I have been living here for 3 years already, but God has been continually growing in my heart a desire to be content with where I am and what I am doing. That being said, I have loved being a part of the community in Puerto and learning a new culture over the past few years, despite various challenges. God’s provision of Christian community has been the biggest blessing of all.
Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
God has provided such a sweet team of coworkers at the school, who have become like a family to me. It has been such a blessing and a joy to walk through various struggles and also celebrate together as brothers and sisters in Christ. No matter what I am going through, God has used these dear people in my life to remind me of His love for me. Their prayers and words of encouragement have been such an answer to prayer!
Our school year started about a month ago and it has been a whirlwind already. However, the support from my team has been a huge blessing. During the first week I was an aide in preschool, then I moved on to be a substitute for 3rd grade for 3 days while my housemate went to a wedding in the states, and then I starting teaching 5th grade because the teacher was pregnant and had to have her baby early. The principal and fellow teachers have been regularly checking in with me to see if they can help in any way. I feel so cared for and loved. It has reminded how God provides in many different ways, with exactly what we need, and when we need it. Puerto Escondido is where I live, but the people make it home.
